Regent Town Center Las Vegas

HELP residents in NW Las Vegas stop AVITROL use in their community. Residents at Regent Town Center attended their association meeting in January 2013 regarding neighbors who leave their trash on their doorsteps for days. At the associations meeting, the board discussed a proposal from PROGRESSIVE PEST CONTROL to exterminate the pigeons. Obviously the most reasonable method to control the pigeon problem would have been for EXCELLENCE COMMUNITY MANAGEMENT to notify residents of the ramifications from unsanitary living. However instead of logical prevention methods, EXCELLENCE COMMUNITY MANAGEMENT  hired  PROGRESSIVE PEST CONTROL despite concerned residents oppositions. Evidence of the harmful effects to the environment and surrounding communities was continually expresses to LYNN BLAYLOCK at EXCELLENCE COMMUNITY MANAGEMENT, regardless executive decisions were made despite residents opposition.

Regardless of the cruelty to animals aspects of this type of poisoning, secondary ingestion from pets and wild life is a major concern. In addition, AVITROL has been banned in CO, CA, NY and UK. As you will learn upon further research, the psychological impact is also very hazardous. When citizens see birds falling the sky, panic sets in. In 2007, after AVITROL use, offices in Washington DC closed because of possible terror threat.

PLEASE HELP use place stringent restrictions on companies who use AVITROL. We are DEMANDING to be notified if we reside within a 5 Mile Radius of any AVITROL use in NEVADA. HELP by following us in our DEMANDS to be forewarned in order to bring out pets and children inside on days when AVITROL is being used.

SIGN OUR PETITION PLEASE

Here's what PETA has to say about AVITROL:

"Avicides like Avitrol are acutely toxic and cause birds and other animals to suffer immensely. Avitrol attacks and impairs birds' nervous systems, causing birds who ingest the poison to become disoriented, exhibit erratic flight and tremors, and suffer violent convulsions for hours before they finally succumb to the effects of the toxin.
Furthermore, "nontarget" species, such as protected songbirds, often perish from eating the tainted baits, and predators such as raptors, foxes, hawks, cats, and dogs die from secondary poisoning after feeding on the dead or dying birds.
Wildlife pathologists have demonstrated again and again that protected and endangered birds, including red-tailed hawks and peregrine falcons, die as a result of ingesting the remains of pigeons and other birds poisoned with Avitrol. For these reasons, cities such as New York CitySan Francisco, and BoulderColorado, have worked with PETA and other animal protection groups to restrict or prohibit the use of Avitrol and other avicides. But these cruel, indiscriminant poisons should not be on the market at all." PETA

  1. Here's what the HUMAN SOCIETY has to say about AVITROl: "Avitrol® poisoning is distressing. “Birds were just falling out of the sky. They would land, lie on the ground, flap and die,” a Staten Island resident told the New York Daily News in December 2007.

A neighbor added that the birds were flying around crooked—“as if they were drunk”—before torpedoing to the ground when more than 50 common grackles plummeted to the pavement.

In Phoenix, a resident told KPHS News, “They just literally started falling from the sky. It's almost like raining dead birds,” when doves, house sparrows, pigeons, and even a protected Towhee littered her back yard.

Metro stations in Washington, D.C., closed in 2007 when the discovery of numerous dead birds raised fears of a terror attack. These reports made news while the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reviewed the compound that killed these birds, 4-aminopyridine. Products containing 4-aminopyridine (brand name Avitrol®) are commonly used by licensed pest control operators on a number of birds.

    The facts

Avitrol®, promoted as a “flock frightening agent” or “repellent,” is a nervous system toxicant. It readily kills birds, and is dangerous to mammals and other animals.
It causes birds who eat it to suffer convulsions, fly erratically, sometimes striking structures, vocalize repeatedly, and eventually die.
The most common target birds are pigeons, house sparrows, and starlings.
From 2002 to 2006, 151-175 pounds of 4-aminopyridine were sold in the U.S. each year—enough to kill more than 200 million birds each year.
Users claim that the distressed behavior of poisoned birds frightens other flock members away. The birds most often poisoned with Avitrol® do not react strongly to flockmates’ distress. In most cases, it kills a large part of the flock. And any “frightening” effect of Avitrol® on surviving birds is very short-lived, because remaining birds return quickly and reproduce. The poisoning cycle continues, making money for pest control companies, and a program of highly dubious public worth. "

  3. Avitrol Pigeon Poison should be strongly reconsidered as a Pigeon Deterrent. Pigeon Poisons such as Pigeon Poison Avitrol pose hazards to the Health and Safety to any communities using Avitrol for Pigeons as a Pigeon Deterrent. Other Bird Deterrents such as Ovocontrol can be used without the harmful impact to endangered and domestic animals from secondary ingestion. Pigeon Control is an obvious Pest Problem that deserves recognition, however Las Vegas Pest Control Companies should reconsider the Pigeon Poison Avitrol as their Pigeon Control Poison.

Las Vegas residents DEMAND prior notice of Avitrol Pigeon Poison use within a 5 mile radius of their homes due to the potential hazards from secondary ingestion by domestic animals and psychological side effects.
